The Role of the Government and the President's Initiative
Our initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda, which emphasises agricultural mechanisation and food security. The government has recently launched a National Agricultural Mechanization Programme (NAMP), which includes the procurement of 2,000 tractors and various farming implements to enhance productivity among smallholder farmers. This initiative aims to provide affordable access to modern agricultural equipment, thereby increasing farm output and improving livelihoods.
We will collaborate with cooperatives to draft a memo to the President, advocating for further support in expanding this program to reach even more small-scale farmers and non-farmers alike. We will seek support for the provision of up to 5 million tractors for small-scale farmers, and extend the initiative to benefit non-farmers.
Risk and Security
To ensure the success of this initiative, we will conduct a comprehensive risk analysis specific to the target regions. This will include evaluating potential security challenges that could affect agricultural operations. Adequate security measures will be deployed in key areas to protect farmers and their investments, particularly given the ongoing conflicts in various regions that pose risks to agricultural productivity.
Media and Communications
We will leverage media platforms to highlight the collaboration between Qietur and other organisations, showcasing our partnership with the Presidential Villa and relevant government bodies. Our media campaign will focus on the broader impacts of our initiative on poverty alleviation, food security, and financial inclusion. By emphasising the government's commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity through mechanisation and support for smallholder farmers, we aim to raise awareness and encourage public engagement in these vital efforts.
